United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley kicked off its 2014 fundraising campaign today at the Columbus Georgia Convention and Trade Center. Nearly 1,000 community and business leaders attended this year’s luncheon. Sallie Martin, 2014 campaign chair, along with Scott Ferguson, president & CEO of United Way, announced a community goal of $7 Million. This represents an identical goal from the 2013 previous campaign.

Columbus, GA –On Monday, July 21, the “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive concluded with a celebration as volunteers stuffed United Way partner agency vans and buses with school supplies at Char-Broil. A total of 88 volunteers began sorting school supplies on Tuesday, July 15 in preparation for the distribution to United Way partner agencies.

One of the best parts about getting ready for the start of the school year is picking out new school supplies, but with a number of families in the Chattahoochee Valley living in poverty, some can’t afford the necessary materials. According to the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Kids Count, 16 to 48 percent of families with children under 18 years old living within the United Way footprint, live below the federal poverty level.
