One of the best parts about getting ready for the new school year is picking out new school supplies, but some local families can’t afford these necessary materials.

A backpack filled with pencils, notebooks, and erasers are just ordinary school supplies to most kids, but to a child in need those few items can be treasured, helping to bridge the gap between fitting in and feeling different.

Stuff the Bus, a school supply drive for local youth in need, kicked off on Thursday, June 16, 2016. United Way will partner with corporate partners and the community at large to donate, collect, sort, and distribute school supplies to hundreds of at-risk youth at 23 Title I schools in Muscogee County and 10 other under achieving schools in the area. Backpacks filled with supplies will be delivered before the beginning of the school year.
