United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley Community Investment Team Member Position Description
Objective
Actively participate as a member of a volunteer team to evaluate programs requesting United Way funds and make funding recommendations.

Volunteer Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate personal investment to United Way by giving to the 2012 Campaign.
  • Be available during business hours to participate in training, team meetings and site visits.
  • Attend a 3-hour volunteer training session.
  • Personally review each written program application and initial program evaluation.
  • Actively participate in all program site visits (scheduled as a team) and team meetings.
  • Be objective, fair and impartial in all aspects of the volunteer review process.
  • Be able to discuss individual point of view and arrive at group consensus.
  • Ensure that funding recommendations are based on a program’s ability to meet a community need, achieve results, and exercise good stewardship.
  • As a team, complete and submit a final program evaluation and funding recommendation.
  • Make an impact in the lives of others throughout your community.
About the Community Investment Fund
  • Volunteers are responsible for determining funding recommendations for the dollars raised in the 2011 Campaign.
  • The priority areas are as follows: Basic Needs, Income, Health and Education. These areas are the building blocks for a good life.
    • BASIC NEEDS, such as food, clothing and shelter, must be secured as a foundation to a good life.
    • An INCOME adequate to pay for today’s necessities and save for the future provides families some sense of financial stability.
    • Good overall HEALTH and access to quality health care keeps children on track in school and adults productive at work.
    • EDUCATION is essential to getting and keeping a job with a livable wage and health benefits.
Volunteer Team Composition
  • Teams are structured around one of the four United Way priority areas of Basic Needs, Income, Health and Education.
  • Teams will review programs within the same priority area and of similar scope.
  • UWCV seeks volunteers who are without conflicts of interest, donate to United Way and represent all sectors of the community, including issue area experts.
  • The knowledge and opinion of each volunteer shall be valued as part of the review process.
  • In making team assignments, we will strive to increase the percent of volunteers reviewing the same or similar programs for multiple years.
  • Each team will have 5-8 team members, a Team Leader, a representative from United Way Board of Directors, and be supported by a United Way staff member.
Time Commitment
This process is concentrated in a seven week period, including training.
Most visits will take place during work hours. Total time commitment is approximately 22-25 hours.
  • Training: 3 hours (March 12 or 14)
  • Independent review of program applications: approx. 4-6 hours
  • Team Planning Session: 1.5 hours at beginning of team review
  • Team Site Visits: 1-1.5 hours per program (March 18 – April 19)
  • Team Wrap-Up Session (to make final funding recommendations): approx. 2 hours at end of team review
Scheduling Team Meetings and Site Visits
Dates and times of team meetings and site visits will be based on team member availability. All volunteers should bring an updated calendar to training.

Confidentiality
Community Investment Volunteers review, discuss, and make recommendations for program funding. Materials and discussions regarding applications, site visits and team deliberation must be kept confidential.

Conflict of Interest
The foundation of the Community Investment volunteer review process is integrity, fairness, and objectivity. To ensure this, Community Investment volunteers must disclose any direct or indirect relationships with agencies in the review process.
